Need to be Known

“I am the good shepherd; I know my sheep and my sheep know me—just as the Father knows me and I know the Father—and I lay down my life for the sheep.” (John 10:14-15 NIV)

Jesus knows the Father. The Father knows Him. They are one.

Even more notable, Jesus (God) knows us! He created us and sustains us!

We must follow the example of Jesus and know each other. We can know each other through disciple-making!

I just returned from Lagos, Nigeria. It is wild and crazy there. The metro area population of Lagos in 2025 is more than 17 million. (The total population of Nigeria is 233 million.) This is a bit different from my city—Grand Rapids, Michigan—with a population 200,000 people.

Are the people of Lagos known by Jesus? Absolutely! Are they known by each other? Maybe. I suspect that the least know are YOUNG MEN.

The photo included with this post was taken at a restaurant in Lagos.

I spoke with these two young men about their importance to God and to society. In fact, I believe these guys are VIPs! Jesus knows them. Also, they need to be known by others. What human will know them best? I believe that is the one who disciples them!

Let’s make young men know. Let’s make disciples!
