Jesus said, “A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.” (John 13:34-35 NIV)
In many societies the words “I love you” is reserved for family members or potential spouse. It seems Jesus has something else in mind. Certainly, he loved his disciples. We know that fact from John 13:1, which reads, “It was just before the Passover Festival. Jesus knew that the hour had come for him to leave this world and go to the Father. Having loved his own who were in the world, he loved them to the end.” I wonder whether Jesus said “I love you” to his disciples. I think He did.
What would happen if disciples of Jesus would truly love one another? What would happen if disciples of Jesus would consistently say to each other “I love you?” What would happen if men discipling young men would express their love to these very important men in their lives?
Let’s be obedient and do it.
